Christine’s Story

Christine was never supposed to stay on the sidelines.

“Ever since I was little, I’ve dreamed of becoming a great football player,” says the 17-year-old captain of AS Tigres in Sékou, Gabon.

After school, she would play football in the neighborhood with the boys often as the only girl on the field.

But that didn’t bother me,” she says. “I kept playing.”

Her father enrolled her in a football school, but the distance made it difficult to continue. Then she discovered Association Sportive Tigres, a local club that gave her a place to grow her passion.

The dream was there. The resources were not.

“We lacked equipment, boots, kits. Sometimes we even swapped shirts just to be able to play.”

That began to change through ARISE Foundation’s Football Drive initiative, which supports youth development through access to sports, safe spaces, and community engagement.

“Since the partnership with ARISE Foundation, everything has changed,” Christine explains. “We started training with a lot of energy to develop our abilities.”

Through these initiatives, more than 1,183 young people have already been directly engaged, with thousands more reached through their communities.

Today, the field represents more than sport. It is a space where young people build confidence, discipline, and belief in themselves and each other.

“With hard work and passion, and partners who believe in our dreams, everything becomes possible.”

Because when young people are given the support to keep playing,
they begin to believe they can go further than the field itself.

Linda Kalimba Mulenga

She has over 25 years of experience in Commercial Law, international affairs, and transactional advisory for public and private institutions. Nadine Mutaka is a business development manager at ARISE IIP, where she engages potential investors and leads feasibility studies for agro-industrial development in West and Central Africa.
