Climate Conscious

For many students, climate change feels distant something discussed by governments or experts, but rarely connected to their own lives.

That is exactly what Climate Conscious was designed to change.

Developed by ARISE Foundation in partnership with AXA Climate, the programme introduces young people to climate issues through interactive workshops and classroom discussions rooted in the realities of their communities.

“We realized that many young people did not necessarily have a real understanding of climate-related issues,” explains Dan Mombo, ESG Data Manager at GSEZ and volunteer facilitator for the programme.

“By the end of the sessions, you could see their perspective changing. They began to understand that climate is not only a global issue it is something connected to their everyday actions and their future.”

During the workshops, students explored topics ranging from renewable and fossil energy to plastic pollution, biodiversity loss, and the impact of climate change on people and ecosystems.

Sessions also focused on practical actions communities can take to reduce environmental and atmospheric pollution.

Climate Conscious was built on a simple belief: climate action must start with the next generation, especially in communities closest to industrial development.

Phase 1 of the programme has now reached more than 2,000 students across Benin, Togo, Gabon, India, and the UAE, with workshops facilitated by AXA Climate experts and volunteers across GDIZ, PIA, and GSEZ.

Because lasting climate resilience begins when young people stop seeing themselves as observers of change
and start seeing themselves as part of the solution.

Linda Kalimba Mulenga

Caryle Boli is the ESG Cluster Manager at ARISE IIP. Nadine Mutaka

Nadine Mutaka is a business development manager at ARISE IIP, where she engages potential investors and leads feasibility studies for agro-industrial development in West and Central Africa.

Alongside her role, she has an entrepreneurial venture in a women-led agricultural company, where she leads business strategy and grant development. She previously worked in consulting and banking, focusing on performance analysis in the energy and agricultural sectors, and has contributed to projects with the World Bank, the DRC Ministry of Education, and KPMG to enhance access to primary education.
